do you ever think that maybe dean’s promiscuity wasnt just some kind of heteronormative performance but rather the only way that he could figure out to get someone to be close to him? because he lived a hunters life even as a child he pretty much had to keep everyone at arms length. but like that boy just wanted to be touched. he wanted it to feel like someone loved him. and maybe that was the only way he knew how to meet those needs?????
well... yeah... sam's coping method was to run away and hack off the part of his life connected to hunting and pretend to be normal and have weirdly hollow domestic partnerships with women who had no idea about any of his life but dean's solution was instead to be completely honest about it and have one night stands with people who also wanted one night stands he didn't let himself have the illusion of a partnership or deeper intimacy beyond that because he was always just gonna leave again and the first woman he did open up to? rejected him because of it (cassie) so rather than risk rejection and abandonment again he has convinced himself for half his life that this is better he can be 'loved' and touched and held for a night or two at a time but anything else is dangerous because either the deeper truth about his life is too awful or worse maybe he himself is truly unlovable at his core but by golly he can put on the act and make someone else feel great for a little while and dang if that ain't depressing af... ilarualYeah, I've got stats for you. as of the end of season 10 (which is all I have data for), Dean has 10 hookups under his belt. It should be noted that two of these occurred when he was a demon running around with Crowley, and that one of these is not actually a "confirmed" hookup, it's just Sam assuming Dean slept with someone because he's hungover the next day and Dean not contradicting that assumption. It also doesn't count Lisa, since while presumably they were sleeping together, it's never actually clarified on screen whether they were having sex or how much (and also because this is a hookup tally, not a relationship tally).
so basically, as of season 10, Dean is hooking up about once per season (although there are a few seasons where he sleeps with no one at all and a few seasons where he has more than one hookup), and he's about to enter his celibacy period so that's pretty much it for Dean aside from another couple of one night stands in seasons 11-12.
within the same time period, Sam has 15 hookups. six of those are while he's soulless (including sleeping with four different women in the same town while on a case with Samuel) and I should note that I counted both of his on-screen hookups with Amelia but NOT any sex that presumably occurred as part of their relationship in between those two instances; since both their first time together and their last time together occurred outside of the boundaries of any kind of established relationship and neither of them had the intention to pursue a relationship at the time they were actually having sex (though it eventually evolved into that afterwards), those two instances therefore met my established criteria for a hookup.
other than the season six outlier, he's about as consistent as Dean as far as casual sex is concerned— you can usually expect him to have "confirmed" or on-screen casual sex once or twice a season, with occasional dry spell seasons.
basically what it boils down to is that Dean and Sam have approximately the same amount of casual sex (when Sam isn't soulless and sleeping with everyone who'll have him), and the main difference in how sexually active they're perceived to be is that Dean 1) is openly kinky and talks about it and b) is more casually flirtatious than Sam— but it should be noted that if he flirts with a woman and she shuts him down, he immediately backs down and treats her both respectfully and, generally, platonically after that.
